چکیده مقاله:

Objective The quality of semen depends upon several factors such as environment, life style, physical activity, age and occupation. The aim of this study was to analyze and compare the conventional and functional semen parameters in men who practice vigorous physical activity to those of sedentary men. MaterialsAndMethods Semen samples from 17 physically active men and 15 sedentary men were collected for analysis. Semen analysis was performed according to the World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines, while functional parameters were evaluated by flow cytometry. Results Our results showed that several semen parameters (semen volume, viability, progressive motility, total motility, normal morphology, moribund cells) were superior in the physically active group compared to the sedentary group. Semen parameters such as viability, progressive motility and total motility, as well as the percentage of moribund spermatozoa were significantly different between both groups. However, sperm DNA damage, lipid peroxidation and mitochondrial potential were not significantly different between the groups. Conclusion Nevertheless, the physical activity was directly related in the improvement of essential semen parameters. Taken together, our results demonstrate that regular physical activity has beneficial impact in sperm fertility parameters and such life style can enhance the fertility status of men.

Long Distance Runners Present Upregulated Sweating Responses than Sedentary Counterparts

Relatively few studies have investigated peripheral sweating mechanisms of long-distance runners. The aim of this study was to compare peripheral sweating mechanisms in male long-distance runners, and sedentary counterparts. Thirty six subjects, including 20 sedentary controls and 16 long-distance runners (with 7-12 years of athletic training, average 9.2±2.1 years) were observed. Quantitative ...

Acute stressor exposure facilitates innate immunity more in physically active than in sedentary rats.

Most previous stress-immune research focused on the immunosuppressive effects of stress on acquired immunity. More recently, it has become clear that acute stressor exposure can potentiate innate, as well as suppress acquired, immunity. For example, acute stress improves recovery from bacterial inflammation, a classic in vivo measure of innate immunity. The previous work was done in sedentary o...

What Incongruent Counterparts Show

In a recent paper, Robert Hanna argues that Kant’s incongruent counterparts example can be mobilized to show that some mental representations, which represent complex states of affairs as complex, do so entirely non-conceptually. I will argue that Hanna is right to see that Kant uses incongruent counterparts to show that there must be a non-conceptual component to cognition, but goes too far in...
